Of course!  If you have multiple types of flowers and want specific items made from specific flowers you must intently each flower and note what item is to be made with what flower.

Do you use the stem and leaves from the flowers?

The stems are discarded.  Generally, just the flower petals are used unless noted specifically to include some leaves.

Can you use dried flowers from few years ago?

Yes

How do I dry my flowers?

If flowers are in a vase you can empty the water, trim the stems and put the flowers back into the dry vase and place in a dry dark location, or you can hang the flowers in a dry dark place, (can take anywhere from 2 - 4 weeks to dry completely, each flower is different).

If you have individual petals or wish to remove the petals from the stem, lay flower petals individually on paper towel using tweezers to remove them from the stem and place in a dry dark location (can take anywhere from 1- 3 weeks to dry completely, each flower is different).

Looking for a quicker process?  Google has many options to dry flowers in your oven or microwave.

Different types/styles of flowers dry differently.  Roses take the longest as the middle core can be thick and take longer to dry completely.  Daisy petals will sometimes drop off from the flower.  If that be the case, let them finish drying as is, they can still be used.

If transporting individual flowers to a safe place to dry, DO NOT put them in a sealed container or bag!  If you do, they will MOLD!  Lightly wrap them in a paper towel or napkin.

If you are not sure the flower is dry to the core, like a rose, peal back the outer dry petals using tweezers.  If the core is still damp/moist you can separate the petals with the tweezers or tooth pick to help dry it out completely.

Any flowers received with mold on them, inside or out are considered hazardous, unable to be used and will be discarded immediately.

How do I know when my flowers are dry?

When the petals are completely brittle, crumble easily when touched, the stem will also be dry and hard and the leaves will be crisp and easily fall off.

The petals are not dry if they still bend and feel spongey or mushy. Also, the flower will feel extremely light when it is dry.

Be cautious with roses, the petals may look and feel dry but the core may still be damp.  Give them extra time to dry completely.  If you are not sure the flower is dry to the core, peal back the outer dry petals using tweezers. If the core is still damp/moist you can separate the petals with the tweezers or a tooth pick to help dry it out completely.

What if flowers start to fall apart/crumble as I prepare them for shipping or drop off?

That is ok.  I crumble the flower petals to incorporate them into the clay.

Where do I ship or drop off my pre-dried flower?

Unique Memories is located in Somonauk, Il.

A mailing/drop off address will be provided in your order confirmation.

Will the dried flower petals remain the same color when incorporated into the clay and baked?

There is no guarantee, it all depends on the petal density.  Generally, any light color delicate flower (white and pink roses) will turn a light to mid brown.

Spray painted carnations, smaller sunflowers and purple statice tend to keep some color.

For examples of the colors of the petals once baked, view the “Gallery” page, those items are completed keepsakes and are photographed with the flowers used.

Do you return unused Flowers?

Knowing your flowers are sentimental and irreplaceable, for this reason the remaining unused flowers will be held for 6 months.  After 6 months if storage is available, they will be held, otherwise they will be discarded.  If you would like the unused flowers returned with your order you must state that with your order.

Can I give you my fresh flowers to dry?  And is there a cost to dry them?

ONLY for orders that are dropped off, NOT SHIPPED.  Flowers must be in an unsealed paper bag without water or any visible mold.  They can be gently wrapped in paper towel or napkin to separate multiple flowers.  Any moldy flowers are considered hazardous, unable to be used and will be discarded immediately.

There is a $65 fee to dry your flowers.  Drying time will increase the processing time of your order by 3 - 4 weeks.
